South Australian parliamentary inquiry into endometriosis releases landmark report
The Australian Coalition for Endometriosis (ACE) notes the delivery of the final report in the South Australian parliamentary inquiry into endometriosis
The Australian Coalition for Endometriosis (ACE) notes the delivery of the final report in the South Australian parliamentary inquiry into endometriosis. ACE and its members contributed evidence to support Committee members to understand the complexity and breadth of the issues involved and has been important to informing the final report.
Key themes of the report included delays in formal diagnosis and the widespread impact that endometriosis can have, including but not limited to, infertility; limiting career prospects, education and physical activities and effects on mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Key themes of the Committee’s 20 recommendations include:
· Better training for health professionals to identify and treat endometriosis – including GPs as the first port of call
· Improving care pathways so women have more options than attending an emergency department
· Better access to care, including multidisciplinary care and in regional areas
· Increasing research and awareness into this debilitating condition
