Researchers from University of Sydney are exploring experiences of invalidating healthcare

Examining validating and invalidating healthcare for adults with chronic pain

Researchers from University of Sydney are exploring experiences of invalidating healthcare, that is, where someone’s pain is delegitimised, not taken seriously, or dismissed by a healthcare professional (e.g., “your pain is in your head”). They are interested in hearing from adults with chronic pain to further understanding in how to increase validating healthcare for chronic pain in Australia.

Those eligible include adults (18+) managing chronic pain who are receiving their healthcare in Australia. The study would involve a:

  • 10-to-15-minute survey (with chance to win 1 of 3 $50 Amazon vouchers) o Asking about demographic data, chronic pain, previous healthcare experiences, psychosocial functioning

  • Optional (opt-in) opportunity to participate in an online interview asking about validating and invalidating healthcare experiences (with $20 Amazon voucher reimbursement)
